This module explores the rich and evolving tradition of the fantastic in literature, through writers of different genres across various periods and cultures. Students will engage with major critical and theoretical approaches to the fantastic, while also situating texts within their historical and cultural contexts, exploring the ways in which social anxieties—such as those surrounding science, technology, identity, and power—are reflected through literature and shape perceptions of reality.
