Applied Electronic Skills and Engineering Practice gives you the chance to step out of the lecture theatre and into real engineering. Across two semesters, you’ll tackle hands-on projects that bring your taught modules to life, helping you build the practical, creative and professional skills expected of a modern engineer.
You’ll work in our specialist labs on real electronic systems, learning how to design, build, test and troubleshoot hardware. Along the way, you’ll gain experience with PCB design, CAD tools, transducers, measurement systems, and the full project development life cycle.
The module also prepares you for your final year project and future career by strengthening your engineering fundamentals and your professional capabilities. You’ll learn how to manage projects, analyse data, communicate effectively through reports and posters, and apply ethical, sustainable and inclusive engineering practices. Industrial guest seminars will broaden your awareness of the engineering landscape and help connect classroom learning to real-world challenges.
By the end of the module, you’ll have a strong portfolio of work, a deeper understanding of how engineering happens in practice, and the confidence to take on more complex design challenges in your final year and beyond.
