This second-year module allows you to study the work of an ancient Greek author in detail, balanced against (a) other literature which contextualises that author’s work (b) the intellectual, social, political, and cultural background of the period. Authors chosen for study in a given year may include (but are not limited to) Homer, Aristophanes, Herodotus, Callimachus, Plutarch, and Lucian. You will refine your skills of close reading of primary sources, literary analysis, and evaluations of secondary sources developed in your first year in preparation for more advanced and specialist study in Years 2 and 3. Alongside these subject-specific skills, you will also build on more general skills you have acquired to develop your time- and project-management, using the library, referencing and academic presentation.
