This module introduces the archaeology of Eurasia, tracing the emergence and evolution of pastoralist societies, from their roots in early Holocene hunter-gatherer communities to formation of the first nomadic empires and the foundations of the Silk Road. Through a combination of lectures and student-led seminars, it provides the opportunity to engage with the remarkable archaeological record of Ukraine, Mongolia, Siberia and Central Asia, and to discover the creativity and resilience of cultures and communities marginalized in Euro- and Sino-centric narratives of 'civilization.'
