ANCIENT GREEK 4B

Code: CLAH524

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 2

At this level, you will develop your skills in reading Greek using an unadapted Greek text in prose or verse (the choice will depend on staff availability and preferences, and will not be the same genre as in CLAH523). As well as grammatical (syntactic, morphological, phonological) analysis of the text, you will start to read the text as a piece of literature, paying attention to how linguistic forms shape literary meaning and understanding. You may encounter Greek dialect or archaic forms, and you will become familiar with the use of commentaries to help understand a text’s meaning. You may also be set secondary scholarship to read.
