This module is taught together with Latin VA, and the focus will be on reading a Latin prose or verse text in the original. Students taking IVA will concentrate on linguistic and literary analysis of the text, using standard tools (particularly commentaries) to explore the literary and historical meaning of a text; they may also be set secondary reading where appropriate. In general a single prose or verse text will be studied, forming a contrast both with the texts examined in Latin III and the text prescribed for Latin IV/VB.
