ALGY373 introduces students to some of the more demanding but rewarding and intriguing texts to have survived from Ancient Egypt, yielding important information about Ancient Egyptian society and culture. Students study a range of set texts aimed at further developing familiarity with the grammar and texts of Old and Middle Egyptian (including Traditional Egyptian), as well as cultivating a deep understanding of the cultural, historical, and literary contexts of the set texts. This module also includes regular unseen reading classes, which aim to develop student Egyptian sight-reading capability.
