Biography

Monique gained her undergraduate degree in Law and MA in Child Care Law and Practice, from Keele University. She then became a research assistant at Keele University on the 'Adult social care and safeguarding during COVID-19: a large-scale mixed methods study' (funded by The Health Foundation), as well as teaching the Law of Torts at undergraduate level.

Since then, Monique has also worked as a research assistant on the 'Designing a Model of Restorative Justice for Victims of Child Abusive Images' project (Funded by the British Academy and the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy) at Lancaster University and "We are not in the same boat: The gendered impact of the pandemic in the UK and how it should shape gender equality for the future." at the University of Leicester.

Monique currently teaches on Contract Law and Land Law.

Research

Monique’s research interests lie in the area of children’s rights and immigration. Her research is focused on age assessments and what impact they have on young unaccompanied children’s access to protection and support. Additionally, her research looks at the social constructs of age and if the boundaries of childhood and adulthood can be blurred.

Monique is also part of the European Children’s Rights Unit (ECRU).
