LiNK: A pioneering PhD skills training & placement programme with cultural & creative industries

With the expanding link between research, practice and innovation in global society and sophistication of what is expected from a PhD, the University of Liverpool aims to provide its PhD students with skills and experience that fulfil the changing demands of the job markets around the globe. The University is therefore changing and expanding its offer for doctoral training.

LiNK, Liverpool Network of Knowledge Exchange, is designed specifically for PGR students to develop (as part of their doctoral training) research, professional and interpersonal skills. We connect postgraduate students across all the faculties with Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) partners. The programme provides opportunities for the University and our placement providers to collaborate in the mentoring of new researchers and to participate actively in the co-production of knowledge and sustainable impact.

Pioneered by the School of the Arts and supported by the Liverpool Doctoral College, LiNK is now open to PhD students from all Faculties across the university. In the past we have had students working with companies on innovative technologies, digital communications, exhibitions, marketing strategies, archival research and heritage programmes. Case studies from previous years will be presented at the launch.

The scheme is designed to offer short-term placements of 15 days, completed over a maximum of 15 weeks (at least 1 day per week).

LiNK is a competitive programme and successful applicants will receive a bursary of up to £500 to cover expenses in relation to the 15-day placement with an external partner.
