The aim of this thesis was to develop a proposal to regenerate coastal towns that have suffered a severe decline in their once prosperous tourist industry. The final scheme developed into a prototype scenario that could be applied to over fifty other seaside towns which suffer similar problems.

Rhyl was recently declared the most deprived town in Wales and targeted for Regeneration. The ultimate objective was to provide employment, redefine what constitutes the ‘British’ seaside holiday, and generate innovative tourist attractions to bring back the holiday maker.

The scheme involves re-branding of the seaside town with eco-industrial tourism thereby creating new British sustainable green industries, which have been derived from Rhyl’s natural resources and attributes. LSA13
