Submissions

These pages provide information on how and when you must submit your thesis.

It is important to note the difference between first and final submission and what actions are required of you at these stages and in between.

In order to be awarded in time for July 2024 graduation the Research Degree Administration team must have received the following no later than Tuesday 25 June 2024.

1. A full set of completed and signed paperwork from all Examiners recommending an award:-

  • Internal Examiners Initial Report
  • External Examiners Initial Report
  • Final Report
  • Minor/ Major Modifications (if needed)

2. Confirmation from the library that the final thesis has been uploaded successfully.

Intention to submit

No less than two months before you intend to submit your thesis you must complete Section A of the Intention to Submit form and pass it to your supervisor.

The Intention to Submit form prompts your School/Institute/Department to appoint an internal and external examiner for your viva voce examination.

In cases where a second external examiner is necessary, for example, if you are a member of staff at the university a should also be completed with the second examiner's information.

How to submit your first submission

Your thesis should arrive no later than your expected end date.

To submit your first submission

It is important that you submit your thesis within a reasonable time frame from the start of your studies, to ensure that you do not exceed the maximum periods of study set out by the University, or the terms of any funding you may be in receipt of. You can check your submission deadline in Liverpool Life.

Your thesis will usually be sent to your examiners within five working days of receipt by the Research Degree Administration Team (this may be slightly longer during very busy periods) if we have not received your submission of thesis form we are unable to send your thesis.

How to submit your final submission

The library has published a PDF with instructions on how to submit your thesis to Liverpool Elements.

Your completed final thesis is submitted through Liverpool Elements which fits with the institutional policy for Open Access publication.

Open access refers to unrestricted, online access to the published findings of research however, this doesn’t remove your ability to embargo your thesis for a period and you can now choose whether to restrict access to your thesis when you upload your thesis into Elements.
