Management School publishes third edition of Research

The Management School has published its third edition of Research, a comprehensive introduction to the latest studies and news from 2022-23.

This issue presents the ground-breaking thinking of colleagues in their respective areas of expertise, and other exiting information, including the School’s 20th year anniversary celebrations and the launch of a new Centre for Organisational and Employee Wellbeing (COEW).

In an accessible and engaging style, Research 03 summarises and highlights the key findings from six research studies across the School’s core subject groups

  • Discover the latest reserach by experts from the School's Operations and Supply Chain Management Subject Group, who are working on a three-year
multi-disciplinary project to address the challenges linked to producing more eco-friendly plastic packaging for fast-moving consumer goods (page 4).
  • Professor Chris Florackis, presents a new firm-level measure of cybersecurity risk for US publicly listed enterprises, and examines whether investors expect greater returns from firms that are more exposed to cyberthreats (page 6).
  • Innovative reserach by Professor Ian Burn provides evidence that gender conformity, in addition to sex, matters in the workplace, particularly for men, as male gender conformity is positively correlated with higher annual income, hourly wages and weekly hours worked (page 8).
  • We follow up on the impact of Professor Lilian Otaye-Ebede’s ongoing research, and how it provides organisations with strategies to effectively manage a diverse workforce, reduce discrimination and create a more inclusive working environment (page 11).
  • As the UK COVID-19 Public Inquiry gets underway, we look at how Professor Lynn Sudbury-Riley's report on the the ‘Lived Experiences of People Bereaved by COVID-19’ by Professor Lynn Sudbury-Riley, has become an integral part of the inquiry and the Hillsborough Law Now Campaign (page 13).
  • As Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) reach record sales numbers, Professor Anatoli Colicev discusses the opportunities they offer brands to reach and engage consumers at different stages of the marketing funnel (page 15).
  • Professor Jordi Surroca, provides evidence of the positive impact green patents have on environmental performance, but the results dispute the idea that environmental management systems, such as the ISO 14001 standard, always foster the development of green knowledge and technological capabilities (page 18).
  • Through a qualitative study of former staff of the Eames Design Office, Dr Greg Fetzer examines how individuals integrate the role of mentors as they
construct retrospective career narratives (page 22).
