Research, Research, Research

We want your  experience abroad to the best it can be. For that reason, it's really important to make sure you research your options and the countries and universities you're interested in, before you submit your application. Things that we would really encourage you to consider are:

  • Educational style
  • Cost of living
  • Location (e.g. urban or rural?)
  • Culture

Attending a drop-in, Global Opportunities 101 or Budgeting session will help you to research all of the above. But you might also want to consider:

  • Good and reputable guide books
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice
  • Researching on the internet
  • Speaking to students who have already been abroad

Once you've done your research, if you have any specific questions about a particular country or university, then don't hestiate to get in touch with the Global Opportunities Team - we'd be happy to advise you further and, if necessary, we can also check directly with our partner universities about specific support they can provide.

You can also check out the downloads on the right hand side of this page, where you can read the Global Opportunities Team's top tips for submitting a great application, as well as case studies from members of the team about their own experiences abroad.

Finally, we've also provided some additional resources below that may be helpful as you plan and prepare for your time abroad. Some of these resources have been produced by foreign governments and organisations, however, they are still relevant and provide useful advice to all travellers.
