Veterinary PhD student wins BSAVA award
University of Liverpool veterinary PhD student Genever Morgan has been announced as the winner of the Best Student Award for her research presentation on the link between raw meat diets and antimicrobial resistance at this year’s British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) Congress.
Genever won for the clinical abstract ‘Raw meat diets are a significant risk factor for carriage of antimicrobial-resistant E. coli by dogs in the UK’ presented at BSAVA Congress 2023 at Manchester Central. Clinical abstract presentations allow the researchers to showcase their research to a wide audience and delegates can also benefit from seeing the latest advances in veterinary medicine.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to present my research to my peers at BSAVA Congress 2023. As a vet undertaking research, it is important to me to be able to share my work with my colleagues, and presenting at BSAVA is a brilliant platform to do this,” she said.
Genever commenced her PhD at the University of Liverpool in 2019, investigating antimicrobial resistance and the public health impact of feeding raw meat diets to dogs. She is due to complete her PhD this Summer and has thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to research such an interesting and thought-provoking subject.
