Staff and students from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics gathered yesterday at the Victoria Gallery & Museum for the Winter Away Day.

The event focussed on the department’s diverse research activity, highlighting current research, opportunities for future collaboration as well as the excellent facilities and support available within the Faculty.

The plenary lecture was delivered by Professor Simon Keller, who spoke about neuroimaging within the department and the range of research within his group, including epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease. There were also sessions by academics and post-doctoral staff.  Research topics ranged from antimicrobial resistance and safer prescribing in the perinatal period to therapies for osteoarthritis and adverse drug reactions.

Colleagues joined from across the Faculty to highlight the impressive range of facilities available within Liverpool Shared Research Facilities, the support available from the Faculty’s Research and Impact Support Hub, as well as MRC fellowship schemes.

The afternoon’s research talks were followed by a session on inter-faculty collaboration with talks from Professor Paul O’Neill (Chemistry), Professor Rachel Bearon (Mathematics) and Professor Raechelle D’Sa (Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering).

Professor Reecha Sofat, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, said: "I'm delighted to say that the event was well received by both staff and students.  Alongside the networking opportunities afforded, the day provided an excellent opportunity to learn about the stellar work going on across the department and will, hopefully, inspire future collaborations."
