Amy Kelly

I am a first year NERC DTP-funded student based in the School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (SEAES) at the University of Manchester. The principal aim of my project is to measure the halogen group elements (Cl, Br, and I) in platinum group element (PGE) bearing cumulates in order to assess the role of halogen-rich volatiles in the concentration of PGEs in mafic-ultramafic layered intrusions.

There is a wide range of courses and workshops I will be taking part in during the first year of my PhD studentship, including detailed training in mass spectrometry and electron probe microanalysis, plus DTP-specific communication skills and public engagement workshops. I am also aiming to have completed fieldwork on the Isle of Rum (Scotland) and to have attended several conferences by the end of my first year (national and international).
