ILHRU Lunchtime Series

Members of the International Law and Human Rights Unit gather to discuss a range of international legal issues.

Schedule - Semester 2 2023/4

All sessions will take place in the SLSJ Building, Meeting Room G (5th floor). This semester, meetings will take place on Mondays of even weeks of term.

Week 0, Monday 22 January 2024 - Dr Alla Timofeyeva (Charles University, Prague)

Dr Timofeyeva, a visiting research fellow at the Law School in 2024, will present a paper on ‘Just satisfaction awards to companies by the European Court of Human Rights’.

Week 2, Monday 5 February 2024 - Jessup team presentation
The Law School’s team of students participating in the 2024 Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition will present their arguments in this year’s case, which concerns the right to political expression, statelessness, the right to a nationality, and the scope of the United Nations Security Council's authority.

Week 4, Monday 19 February 2024William Norcup-Brown
Will (PGR) will present a paper on ‘Expressional activity and access to privately owned public spaces’.

Week 6, Monday 4 March 2024 – Presentations by first year PhD students
First year PhD students working on international law and human rights issues are invited to give a short (max. 5 min) presentation introducing the topic of their doctoral research and key research questions.

Week 10, Monday 22 April 2024Professor Padraig McAuliffe
Padraig will present a paper on 'The Narrative Arc of the Covenant: Ideas of State at the Dawn of the ICESCR’.

Week 11, Monday 29 April 2024 – Sinead Coakley
Sinead (PGR) will present a paper on ‘Transitional Justice Responses to Tangible Cultural Heritage Destruction’.

Week 12, Monday 6 May 2024Dr Phil Burton
Phil will present a paper on ‘The experiment of international administration’.
