Aims

The module aims at:

  • introducing students to the principles and methods communication research
  • give students the necessary anaytical and methodological skills to develop their dissertation
  • highlight the importance of research ethics

Learning Outcomes

Understanding of the importance of rigorous methods in scientific research

Ability to identify research problems and formulate relevant questions and hypotheses

Ability to select appropriate methods and data to investigate a research problem

Ability to discuss and present research results

Awareness of ethical implications of social research


Syllabus

The indicative syllabus of this module includes the following:

  • Introduction to the main methodological approaches to the study of public relations, business and corporate communication.
  • Research design
  • Identifying research problems and formulating research questions
  • Relevant literature selection and construction of a literature review
  • Developing a theoretical framework
  • Sampling and data collection
  • Case study analysis
  • Textual and discourse analytic approach
  • Questionnaires, interviews, and surveys
  • Basic quantitative methods for data analysis
  • Results interpretation and presentation 
  • Ethical issues in social research
  • Writing scientific articles (absract, research questions and hypothesis, literature, discussion of results, conclus ions)
