Research Overview

Dr Rosti Readioff and her team at the University of Liverpool are interested in understanding the structure-function relationship of biological (natural and engineered) tissues, with a particular focus on knee joint tissues. They are working on developing experimental and advanced in silico tools to facilitate their investigations on tissue mechanics, as well as looking into novel materials for medical applications in the fields of orthopaedics and dentistry to improve healthcare treatments.

Experimental Methods for Tissue Mechanics Investigations

An example of an optical measuring setup for in vitro tissue investigations (Readioff et al. 2020, Acta Biomaterialia)
An example of an optical measuring setup for in vitro tissue investigations (Readioff et al. 2020, Acta Biomaterialia)

Developing new optical measuring techniques improves accuracy in determining the mechanical properties of tissues, whether in vivo or in vitro. This information is vital for improving the design of implants and other biomedical devices.

Advanced Computational Methods for Tissue Mechanics and Tribological Investigations

An example of developing an advanced modelling technique to investigate repair techniques for knee joint menisci (Readioff et al. 2023, ESBiomech)
