Aerospace design, prototyping and testing are time-consuming and expensive processes. Incorporating virtual simulations into some of these key steps, rather than producing and testing actual aircraft, is an important way to expedite the roll-out of improved, or in some cases radically new, components and systems while reducing costs. I am an active participant of the EU-funded RoCS project that is developing guidelines for the use of simulation in certification of the EU's future rotorcraft as part of the fast-rotorcraft platform under the Clean Sky2 programme.
