"Issues of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are key principles within the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics. These help to form our ethos and culture as a department are key considerations in our policies and procedures. In my role as Admissions Tutor these matters are given careful consideration to ensure we attract students from diverse backgrounds and that all are treated equally and fairly during the recruitment process. Examples of this include undertaking blind evaluation of personal statements, and contextual offers. Similarly it is important that when perspective students visit the department they are able to meet and interact with a diverse mix of students. These principles reach beyond direct recruitment and are also core components of many outreach activities and events we take part of. Only by reaching out to everyone and by being truly inclusive can we attract the engineers required to overcome the many problems and challenges of tomorrow."
