The University of Hong Kong

About Hong Kong

The bustling city and world-famous skyline make Hong Kong one of the most unique and exciting destinations in Asia. Considered as the gateway to China, with frequent air, train and ferry links to the Mainland, Hong Kong has a special and fascinating history. Hong Kong became a UK dependent territory in 1842 as a result of the Opium Wars, but was officially handed back to China in 1997. As a consequence, English is widely spoken in Hong Kong, so students will have no difficulty in communicating and getting around.

Hong Kong is now a major centre for global finance and business, and has a thriving service sector economy. Students will be able to experience Chinese culture firsthand, and be part of the festivals, heritage and celebrations which form an integral part of life in Hong Kong.

Whilst in Hong Kong, students can savour the beautiful natural surroundings that envelope the cityscape, or visit world-famous attractions such as the Giant Buddha on Victoria Peak. lt's proximity to Mainland China, as well as the other Special Administrative Region of China, Macau, allows for almost endless opportunities to explore.
