This toolkit is a starting point. There are no straightforward solutions, and views on what should be prioritised and what works will vary by context. It is therefore important to keep an open mind and continue to regularly review what we teach and share with students.
By inviting educators to explore this toolkit, we aim to support the inclusion of EDI-related content and values across all our learning environments:
● Equipping our student doctors with the knowledge and skills they need in order to provide healthcare where no individual will be disadvantaged.
● Improving awareness of diverse groups, including UK minorities and marginalized groups and the challenges, barriers and inequalities they encounter in healthcare.
● Supporting student doctors in developing the skills and knowledge base required to communicate and collaborate between diverse groups when interacting with patients, patient families and in a team context.
● Fostering an environment within the School of Medicine where diverse perspectives are welcome and students and staff feel represented, included and safe.
