Dr Cahill-Ripley’s briefing provides an introduction to the subject and outlines the rationale for the use of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights for peacebuilding. Further it sets out the case for the inclusion of ESCRs within a Bill of Rights (BoR) for Northern Ireland with the objective of building a sustainable, peaceful and inclusive society. The official Hansard Report and video is available here Written and Oral Evidence to the Northern Ireland Assembly Ad Hoc Committee on A Bill of Rights
In 2019 In June 2019 Dr Cahill-Ripley gave an invited Keynote Presentation and participated in the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Expert Consultation on 'Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Prevention of Violent Conflict'.
Dr Cahill-Ripley was also invited to speak at a discussion event focussed on attitudes and engagement of the Protestant Unionist Loyalist (PUL) community in Northern Ireland with human rights. Based on her own research, Dr Cahill-Ripley joined a panel of local PUL activists to discuss barriers to the enjoyment and utilisation of rights for this community and to examine how they can be overcome. See Protestant Unionist Loyalist (PUL) Approaches to Human Rights
In 2018 Dr Cahill-Ripley briefed the 63rd Session of UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (the principle international human rights treaty body concerned with protecting and promoting economic, social and cultural rights at the United Nations) on her research on 'The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and Sustaining Peace' (Alongside colleague Karol Balfe, the Head of Tackling Violence and Building Peace for Christian Aid Ireland). The briefing, jointly organised with project partners Freidrich Ebert Stiftung and hosted by the UN CESCR Secretariat, was attended by committee members, invited NGOs and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
