Law with a Year in China

Law is not just about learning what the rules are, but about thinking about what they should be.

This degree offers a truly modern legal education reflecting the needs and concerns of society in the 21st century. Whether you are planning a career in the legal profession or a career in almost any other field of expertise, this degree will challenge and inspire you.

Apart from the personal self-development and employability benefits to our undergraduate cohort, the Year in China offers our students a unique opportunity to experience life and learning in the Chinese context. Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou, approximately 30 minutes from Shanghai by high-speed train. Our special relationship with XJTLU provides a distinctive and invaluable opportunity for our students to gain experience in the world's second largest economy by studying abroad.

You would add an additional year to a standard Law degree programme and spend this at XJTLU. Students are able to go on the Year in China after second year, or after final year at Liverpool.

During your time at XJTLU you will be studying one module of Chinese language per semester; two modules from the China Studies catalogue which can be on any topic, e.g. Chinese history, politics or culture; depending on your academic department either one further module on China Studies or one module related to your degree programme in Liverpool.

Making the decision to spend a year in China is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I got to explore China’s culture by actually being part of it and experiencing it for myself. Suzhou is such an amazing city and is a great base to go travelling from. I travelled Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Kuala Lumpur and Bali which was also such an amazing experience. I have met some of my best friends through China.
