About the event

Employability has come to the fore in higher education in the UK in recent years, but Tomlinson (2010) has argued that the dominant view is that employability is about educating ‘individuals with the skills and credentials demanded by the labour market’. An underlying aim of this session is to problematise the notion of employability. It reports on a recent study of the organisational impact of doctoral study for students on an EdD programme focused on the study of higher education, using the insights gained in the study to consider employability as the capacity to make a contribution to a collective effort through one’s work, rather than simply as a relationship between an individual and the labour market.

Refreshments will be available from 12.15pm and the seminar will start at 12.30pm. There will be time for discussion after the seminar for those who are able to stay.
