Capital Investment:  £12 million overall including two additional premises. Teaching Hub Phase £5 million construction.

 

Project Profile

ULCCO Special Projects was commissioned to collaboratively work with the University's strategic working group and their Project Manager and chosen design team to develop a design and provide a best value construction budget for 317m2 of refurbishment works over 2 floors within buildig 502 on central campus to provide additional teaching and study space.

The newly refurbished building has provided high class finishing's contributing to a modern vibrant teaching environment as follows:

  • 3 Lecture Theatres Providing 264, 310 & 329 Seats
  • Group Race Seating Lecture Room (80)
  • Varying Occupancy Group Teaching Rooms
  • 9 Cellular collaboration study spaces with AV
  • 7 Walk up collaborative desks with AV
  • 11 Booth style study spaces

All study facilities fitted with state of the art audio visual's whilst adapting familiar controllers to aide lecturers. Wireless AV connectivity is incorporated throughout the facilities suitable for sharing phone/tablet/laptop content.

Project Evaluation

  • Early engagement of the main contractor resulting in collaborative working of the whole project team
  • Open protocol of commercial managment with lifecycle costing consideration and best value 
  • Develop the design in conjunction with maximising programme delivery from inception in August 2016 to completion in August 2018
  • Project planning across 3 departments, relocating key services to accommodate the new facilities
  • Early completion allowing beneficial use
  • The benefit of using an "in house" contractor in terms of delivery and quality with a non adversarial approach and the clients interest at the forefront of all decision making
