Summer Schools

Year 10 students from selected local partner schools have been invited to attend our 2023 Summer School. The Summer School aims to improve understanding of student life, raise aspirations and aid goal setting for the future. The focus during this overnight event is on science and humanities subjects and involves the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Pupils will experience hands-on academic workshops taught by University staff and students, designed to give them an insight into how students learn at the University and the resources and equipment that is used. Overall the programme aims to show that working in cutting edge scientific fields requires expert skills and knowledge - skills and knowledge that can be gained at university, and can lead to a rewarding and exciting career.

Staff from the Widening Participation and Outreach team will also be delivering practical workshops on themes such as student finance, time management and student life, to remove some of the fear around progressing to higher education. There will opportunities to ask questions and make new friends!

Pupils will stay overnight in University Halls of Residence, giving them an immersive experience.
