We are in the process of preparing an application for a Wellcome Trust Strategic award. This will focus on Pharmacogenomics of Infants. I will provide supporting expertise in Systems Biology/Network Biology

I am a co-applicant on Mike's large BBSRC SABR Systems Biology grant. In addition, we also secured funding for 4x 4-year PhD studentshipd form the BBSRC. Finally we are currently developing plans for using microscopic methods to investigate conditional protein-protein interactions in live human cells.

We are both involved in the BBSRC funded SBR Systems Biology project. In addition we are currently discussing plans for a possible co-appliaction to study global protein degradation/ ubiquitination profilesin eukaryotic cells. These plans are still in an early phase as they must follow publication of our manuscript on the Human E2/E3-RING interaction network.

We are working together to generate NMR/structural information relating to novel human E2-E3/RING and E2/DUB protein complexes. This work will also form the foundation for a future joint grant application in this field which will be led by myself but with 50% split on credit. It is my intention that together we can establish Liverpool as a recognised centre for the analysis of hirachical/combinatorial protein complexes.

We haveve collaborated for about three years on different projects but most recently David performed functional ubiquitination assays in oreder to asses the accuracy of our experimental predictions. This was a very sucessful collaboration which will result in a joint publication. Additional experiments are been discussed to support a future grant application.

Investigating the molecular basis of partner preferences within the Humanb ubiquitome.

Dr Reid initially came to work as a visiting researcher in my group when I was working at the MRC Rosalind Franklin Centre for Genomics Research in Hinxton Cambridge. During this period we performed several protein interaction studies to identify novel proteins that interact with proteins encoded by genes involved in hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. To date this work produced three publications which provide novel insights into possible mechanisms of neuronal degeneration. In addition this work also led to the identification of novel components of the human endocytic pathway. We are both keen to continue this successful collaboration and as such we are performing several ongoing research projects and applying for joint funding to investigate a new candidate genes which are also linked to spastic paraplegia and neuronal degeneration.
