WriteFest 2026
WriteFest 2026 runs from Monday 2 November until the end of the month. This year, alongside a programme of live sessions, WriteFest is shining a spotlight on the wealth of online writing resources already available across the University, so you can develop your writing whenever and wherever suits you.

Teams from across the University have created a wealth of online writing resources, and this year WriteFest is bringing them together in one place. Whatever stage of your career you’re at, from PGR to professor, you’ll find resources to explore at your own pace, during November and beyond.

'Shut Up and Write' retreats
Each week during WriteFest there will be two ‘Shut Up and Write’ writing retreats, running from 09:00 to 11:00: two hours of protected time to focus on your writing projects, strengthened by accountability, and supported by a community of peers. Every Wednesday there is a hybrid option (join online or come in person to the Liverpool Science Park Foyer), while every Friday there is a virtual writing retreat. Programme highlights
- Writing for publication – Find out how to publish in high-impact journals, learn to write impactful academic abstracts, and discover the steps to publishing your PhD as a book.
- Writing tools – Take your referencing further with Advanced EndNote, and explore the strengths and limitations of using AI to analyse your data.
- Data and writing – Discover best practice for research data management (11, 16 or 24 November), learn more about FAIR principles and open data, create a data management plan using DMPonline (12, 18 or 26 November), and get an introduction to qualitative research.
- Writing for careers – Our narrative CV clinic offers one-to-one feedback on narrative CVs for external funding applications. PGRs can join sessions on academic CVs and academic cover letters,
- PGRs – Reflect on the mechanics of academic writing, develop effective writing habits, get to grips with structuring your thesis, and learn about copyright and your PhD thesis. There is also an in-person, full-day PGR writing retreat on Tuesday 3 November.
