Professor delivers keynote speech at UK Stroke Forum
Professor Fiona Rowe, Head of the Department of Primary Care and Mental Health, and lead for the VISION research group, delivered the keynote speech at the UK Stroke Forum last week.
Known as the Princess Margaret Memorial Lecture, Professor Rowe’s keynote was entitled ‘A vision for vision’ and focused on embedding orthoptic care within stroke teams and improving vision for stroke survivors.
The UK Stroke Forum is the UK’s largest multidisciplinary conference for stroke care professionals. Held over three days, the event took place at the ICC Birmingham and was attended by a sell-out crowd of 2000 delegates.
The department had a major presence at the conference, highlighting orthoptics research from the VISION group and collaborators. Dr Lauren Hepworth ran a parallel session on visual impairment and there were multiple poster presentations. Professor Rowe also spoke at an A&E session about vision assessment on admission for stroke survivors.
Professor Rowe commented: “It was a pleasure and a privilege to deliver the Princess Margaret Memorial Lecture and a lovely surprise to receive a signed letter from the Earl of Snowdon. To outline the journey, of inception through to implementation, of orthoptic service delivery within stroke care settings over the past 25 years, was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work from the orthoptic profession.”
