In Focus is back!

Teaching sensitive topics in a higher education context is important; it can also be challenging. Such topics might be divisive, contested, and controversial from a political or social perspective, and/or they might have particular personal significance for individuals in the class – including you, the teacher.

Dr Jobling, bringing together research and teaching, is currently writing a book on these issues based on her experience in navigating topics such as racism, sexual harassment, protest and colonial heritage, and free speech/hate speech in the media.

Over lunch, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights from J’annine’s longstanding personal teaching experience and to explore alternative pedagogical strategies. By the end of the session, you will have identified the skills needed for tackling sensitive topics in the classroom and built the confidence necessary to excel in your current and future teaching.

In Focus is a series of workshops especially designed for PGRs aiming at providing insights, guidance, and support with key aspects of your graduate studies in the School of the Arts.

It was introduced in direct response to student-identified needs through SOTA IPR, annual DNAs and SSLCs. InFocus is an opportunity to share information and guidance while operating as an open forum for discussion and collaboration between PGR students and staff, thus enhancing the School’s research community and culture.
