On August 14, PhD researcher, Lauren Stephens, led a day-long internal workshop for Open Eye Gallery staff as part of her role as Philosopher in Residence. She hosted three one-hour sessions on 'Assessing Socially Engaged Art', 'Socially Engaged Art in Practice' and 'Looking to the Future for Open Eye Gallery'. These sessions gave opportunities for gallery staff to reflect on their individual roles and how they contribute to the gallery’s mission as the UK’s socially engaged photography lead. Due to the positive feedback from this workshop, Lauren hopes to lead another workshop in the future focusing on the ethics of socially engaged photography.
