We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Tarek Yusari as Postdoctoral Research Associate on the project.

In 2010, Dr Yusari was awarded a Bachelor of Laws and Social Sciences (Summa Cum Laudae) from the University of Chile. In 2013, he came to the UK to study at Oxford. There he gained a Magister Juris (Master of Law) (Distinction) in 2014 and was awarded the Clifford Chance Prize for Best Overall Performance on the degree. In the following year, he gained an M.Sc. in Political Theory at the LSE.

Dr Yusari returned to Oxford to do a D.Phil. in Law, under the supervision of Dr James Edwards. His thesis, entitled ‘Justifying Public Justice’, was examined by Prof. Antony Duff and Prof. Sandy Steel and passed, with no corrections, in October 2021. An abstract of the thesis appears in Criminal Law and Philosophy: https://doi.org/10.1007/s11572-023-09658-8. With Dr Edwards, Dr Yusari has recently published ‘The Internal Morality of Criminal Law’ in Oxford Journal of Legal Studies: https://doi.org/10.1093/ojls/gqad005. Dr Yusari is experienced in legal practice, and his teaching experience at Oxford encompasses criminal law, jurisprudence, and moral and political philosophy.

Dr Yusari’s D.Phil. thesis addresses some themes that are highly relevant to this project, including the powers and prerogatives of state agents as against those of private citizens.
