Philosophy appointing three new colleagues. Applications open!

Published on

We are growing! Having recently appointed a new head of department, Michael Hauskeller, and a new lecturer, Rachael Wiseman, we are now looking for three new colleagues.

The Department of Philosophy at Liverpool has a long history of combining research excellence in core areas of philosophy with innovative work at the frontiers of the discipline: from literature to spirituality, Chinese philosophy to animal ethics, neo-Platonism to feminism. In the 2017 Guardian league table we were ranked 7th.

We are seeking to appoint three new colleagues to contribute to our existing research and teaching strengths, to diversify our expertise, and to grow our new future-oriented research programme, which focuses on the philosophical implications of likely future technological developments and scientific advances.

The philosophy and the future programme is an inclusive and pioneering programme that can accommodate research across many areas. Existing work in the department includes the implications of big data for medical practice; the future of the concept of the human; the function of myth in constructing the future narratives; the role of the philosopher in a changing society; the philosophy of games and gaming.

We are seeking two lecturers. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in the philosophy of art, epistemology or metaphysics, logic and the philosophy of mathematics. We are also looking to appoint a senior lecturer or reader to assume the academic leadership of the department’s new PPE programme.

We welcome applications from women and candidates from other groups that are traditionally underrepresented in philosophy.
