Preparing for success: MSc Digital Marketing and Analytics

Dr Sahar Karimi, Director of Studies, shares advice as you prepare for the start of your master's programme.

Sahar Karimi

Congratulations for securing a place on our new MSc Digital Marketing and Analytics programme.

We are delighted that you have chosen to study with us and are looking forward to welcoming you to our thriving learning and research community at the University of Liverpool Management School in the autumn.

My name is Dr Sahar Karimi and I am a Senior Lecturer in Marketing and the Director of Studies for the new MSc Digital Marketing and Analytics programme.

I have a PhD in online consumer decision-making behaviour, an MSc in Advanced Computer Science with ICT Management and a BEng in Computer Engineering. My research focuses on how consumers interact with digital platforms and smart technologies to process information and make choices and how this insight can be used by firms to support consumer decisions.

I hope you are looking forward to joining our dynamic and multi-cultural school, making new friends, and starting your journey in Digital Marketing and Analytics. You will join us on our lovely campus where we all work together in a supportive and stimulating environment.

You can learn through your own curiosity, following up and exploring topics that particularly interest you. You can learn by reflecting on your own daily consumer experiences and interactions with digital platforms, reading marketing news, and keeping up-to-date with the advances in technology.

You can also learn a lot from asking questions. Ask if you don’t understand something. Ask if you find something interesting and want to know more. Ask questions of your tutor and ask questions of your fellow students – they will have different and valuable perspectives. Ask questions of yourself – why do I think that? What could I do differently? And of course, ask if you need any help or support.

Aside from the programme itself, you can look forward to taking part in the ULMS ExECS award and the ‘We can work it out’ Master's Consultancy Challenge.

Through the ULMS Extracurricular Engagement, Careers, and Skills Award (ExECS) you can develop skills in the areas of careers and employability, personal development, networking practice, and take part in social and cultural activities. These are areas that ULMS believes will provide you with the skillset and knowledge needed to enhance your student experience.

The Master's Consultancy Challenge is open to all MSc Management School students across all disciplines. It is a fantastic opportunity to work with employers and gain experience of solving a real-world business strategic challenge. Companies that have taken part in previous years include PwC, Santander, Decathlon, Mando, Sysdoc and Chester Zoo. You can watch a short video about the consultancy challenge here.

Welcome and Induction

I would also strongly encourage you to engage with our Welcome and Induction activities which will be taking place the week before your programme starts. The sessions are filled with important information about life in Liverpool, the University and the School and will include my programme welcome talk. Please visit the welcome pages in Canvas for updates on these sessions, once you get access.

I am looking forward to meeting you all and welcoming you to the programme!
