One (part-time) year on – Go Highers Celebrate

One of the most enjoyable days in the Go Higher calendar is an evening in mid-July when we celebrate the achievements of the Go Highers who have just completed their Diploma and are looking forward to beginning their degrees in September.

Joining these students at the celebration are former Go Highers who have completed their undergraduate studies and are about to graduate. These former students are always an inspiration and encouragement to Go Highers about to embark on that journey.

So what degrees are our Go Higher progressing to in 2023? Most stay at the University of Liverpool and this year we have students joining departments including Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology, Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology, English, Psychology, Philosophy, Politics, History, Music and more. One of the key advantages of Go Higher is that students do not have to choose their degree programmes at the start of the Diploma; instead, they get a chance to experience different disciplines and finalise their degree choices in semester two. This is a huge boost, especially if you have been away from formal education for a long time and are not aware of the extensive range of disciplines available. The disciplines taught on Go Higher are currently English, History, Law, Sociology and Philosophy, so students get a grounding in both arts and social sciences, so they are well prepared for whatever degree they progress to.

Go Higher graduates 2023 are graduating from a range of departments including all the above plus Law, International Business, Irish Studies, Popular Music, and Modern Languages. Some of them are progressing on to Masters degrees, others to further training (such as teaching) or to graduate employment.

Our Celebration 2023 is a wonderful showcase of what Go Highers achieve, made even more impressive as many of them begin the Diploma without the formal qualifications usually required for university entry.
