How to apply

Applying for Go Higher is a simple 3-step process.

Step 1: You submit an application form (available to download here: Go Higher Application form 2024-25) and personal statement

Step 2: Your application is considered by the Go Higher Admissions Team

Step 3: You will be contacted within 3 weeks of receipt of your application form with the outcome. If your application is successful at review stage you will be invited to an online interview. Please state on the form any days you would not be available to attend an interview.

It is important that you read through the information provided before applying for the programme.

Final closing date is 25th July at 12 noon. However, you are encouraged to apply early. Please reply by 14th December 2023 for interviews in January/February 2024 and by 7th March 2024 for interviews in April and May 2024.

 

How much does the Go Higher course cost?

The Fees for the academic session 2024-2025 will be subject to an increase but as a guideline the fees for 2023-24 are as follows

The Registration Fee or the first instalment of other fees are payable at the beginning of September.

  • £1100: Full Fees, payable in three instalments (includes the Registration Fee)
  • £100: Registration Fee. This is available to applicants in receipt of a means-tested benefit such as job Seeker’s Allowance, council-tax or housing benefit, Universal Credit, Working Families’ Tax Credit, etc
  • £5,750: International student

Please note that Go Higher students are not eligible to apply for Student Loans and are therefore self-funded. 

 

What happens after I submit my application?

We will contact you within 3 weeks of receipt of your application form. If you have not heard from us within 3 weeks of your sending, then you should contact the Go Higher office on 0151 794 1433 or gohigher@liverpool.ac.uk. If successful you will take a short assessment online at home, followed by a friendly informal interview.

Is Go Higher suitable for me?

Go Higher is especially targetted at domestic mature and non-traditional students. This may include you if you lack the qualifications for degree entry, you are returning to learning, have experienced a disrupted education, have taken a break from studies, or are thinking about changing career pathways to the humanities.

Go Highers progress to a large range of degrees in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and to some degree programmes beyond this such as Psychology and Georgraphy. Head here to see the complete list of degree pathways. Whatever degree pathway you choose, the disciplines you will study on Go Higher include History, Law, Literature, Philosophy and Sociology.

Many Go Higher graduates have go on to successful careers in a wide range of fields, and many others have opted to study at Masters and PhD levels in the future - with one or two now lecturers at this University!

What will I learn?

The Go Higher Diploma combines study skills training (for example how to take notes, academic writing and how to think critically) with learning sessions that will introduce you to a variety of disciplines. This helps you to become a confident, independent learner and allows you progress to a wide range of degrees in the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Who will teach me?

University of Liverpool staff present the lectures and provide online tutorial support. These are the same people who would teach you on your degree.

As a Go Higher student, you will also have an academic mentor. You will be able to use the University's award-winning student support services.

I want to do a more science-related subject like Nursing, Computer Science, Physiotherapy. Would Go Higher help me with that?

Go Higher would be an unsuitable pathway if you want to do a more science-based qualification such as Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, or IT. We advise you to look at courses which are targeted towards science or healthcare professions.
