Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is integral to this role, as it enables external examiners to remain informed about developments in sector policy, regulatory requirements, assessment practice, and disciplinary knowledge. Ongoing CPD supports the examiner's ability to make well-informed judgements and contribute effectively to the enhancement of academic quality and standards.
Introduction to External Examining
The Academy has developed a brief e-learning module, on LearnWell, as an introduction for those new to taking on such a role. The aim of this module is to give you an insight into the work of external examiners and the function of their role. It will introduce relevant resources and policy documents and explore some of the fundamental principles surrounding responsibilities in key areas such as safeguarding academic standards, moderation, calibration and ongoing continuing professional development.
