Recent UoL Graduate Wins a Royal College of Surgeons Grant

Published on

Recent University of Liverpool Dental School graduate, Miss Teslimat Ajeigbe, has been awarded the joint Faculty of Dental Surgery and British Society of Paediatric Dentistry’s pump-priming grant!

The scheme is set up to support and fund research into children’s oral health. This is what Tes had to say about her application and project –

This project hopes to explore what information we can gain by looking at the proteins in children’s baby teeth. It will use mass spectrometry to analyse recently exfoliated, or recently extracted, healthy incisor teeth from children without any medical co-mordibities or additional needs.

The aim is to obtain some benchmark data that will facilitate future work exploring if early-life disease or deprivation differentially affects the proteins inside children’s baby teeth, especially as we know that children from lower socio-economic backgrounds and those with medical issues often suffer from poorer oral health.

I’m very pleased to have won this grant, especially in my first year as an ACF, and I’m very grateful to Professor Albadri for her supervision and guidance. I’m looking forward to starting the project now!

Please join us in congratulating her and wishing her all the best in her project!
