Research
American Independent Cinema

Emphasis on industry, aesthetics, politics, performance, documentary and technology) – an area of expertise in which my work has been recognized internationally, following the publication of four monographs (with one of them recently published in a second edition and translated in another language), one co-edited collection, many journal articles and book chapters and through co-editing the ‘American Indies’ book series (five published volumes so far with a sixth volume to complete the series in 2020).
Global entertainment industries and the place of Hollywood cinema in them
this area is served through the ‘Hollywood Centenary’ book series with Routledge, a series that examines the centennial history of the 8 major Hollywood studios. The series was contracted in November 2014 and the first volume on MGM was published in March 2018. Volumes on Fox and United Artists are scheduled for 2019, on Warner Bros. for 2020 and Paramount, Universal, Disney and Columbia for 2021. This is a major research project and is being managed together with Gary Needham (University of Liverpool).
Greek cinema
Particular emphasis on the intersection between Greek cinema with Hollywood film and media) - Following the launch of the Journal of Greek Media and Culture (now in its 5th year) for which I am one of the editors I have published 2 book chapters and one journal article on the topic. I am currently preparing a major research project on Hollywood studios' activities in Greece, 1957-1967.
