Tribute to Terence Davies
The Department of Communication and Media is very saddened to hear that acclaimed Liverpool-born filmmaker Terence Davies died on 7 October 2023. He was involved in a number of projects with the Department in the late 2000s leading to the Capital of Culture events of 2008, while in 2010 he became an honorary professor in the Department as he continued to make films with Liverpool-based company Hurricane Films. He will always be remembered as one of the most visually gifted British filmmakers, with films such as Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) and Of Time and the City (2008), in particular, managing to capture Liverpool in a uniquely personal manner.
