Student Experience Administrative Assistant

Tell me a little about your position and what you do on a day-to-day basis

As a member of the student experience team we act as a first point of contact for students, staff and visitors, help students with any difficulties and refer specific enquiries onto the relevant teams. We provide initial advice to students on module registration, handle any confidential or personal matters and provide secretarial support to senior members of staff. We also support with the collection and return of assessed work and the recording of marks.

What is the best thing about working at the University of Liverpool?

The diversity of people that I get to meet, work with and learn from.

What advice would you give someone who is seeking the same line of work?

Get involved in things that might be outside your comfort zone. There are lots of projects that you have the opportunity to get involved in and I would encourage any new employees to do this. It also helps to meet others colleagues you may not speak with day-to-day.

How has UoL supported you with your development?

From day one, I was enrolled on numerous training courses including role related training, GDPR, and university specific computing services. I have also been the given the opportunity to sit in meetings with key academics and learn more about how all different aspects of the department works.

What are some of the benefits you’ve discovered about working here that you weren’t aware of when you started?

Each staff member has access to “Perks at Work” which gives staff discounts for online shopping, travel and electronics. The University also offers an Employee Assistance Programme which is a free confidential, counselling and information service to help with any personal or work-related problems; it is reassuring to know this is available if I ever needed it.

How did your education or past experiences prepare you for this job?

I have a good understanding of the student experience based on my own time in University. I graduated in 2016 so have good up to date knowledge of the types of issues students face and can therefore signpost the students to the most appropriate support if needed.
