CertAVP Equine Animal Modules

We have a wide range of equine modules, as well as other modules suitable for vets working with any species, that you can take as part of the CertAVP. We recommend starting with A and B modules, which provide the foundation for the rest of the CertAVP programme, and should be completed in order before starting any C-modules. A & B modules run three times each year, starting in January, April, and September, which means that you can choose when you begin your studies without waiting a whole academic year to begin. The C-modules can be completed in any order. Refer to the timetable for when these run.

Designated Certificates

If you wish to work towards a designated certificate in equine practice, you must successfully complete A & B modules and then choose your C-modules from a narrower selection. The University of Liverpool currently offers modules required for the following Production Animal designated certificate options. These are also pathways options on the Veterinary Professional Studies programme: 

• Equine Medicine
• Equine Surgery – Soft Tissue
• Equine Surgery – Orthopaedics
• Equine Practice
• Equine Dentistry
• Equine Stud Medicine
• Equine Lameness Diagnosis and Therapeutics
• Equine Emergency and Critical Care

These designated certificates can also be taken from an Equine point of view:

• Veterinary Dermatology
• Veterinary Anaesthesia
• Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging
• Veterinary Cardiology

In addition to the modules, candidates working towards a designated CertAVP must also pass a Synoptic Examination which can be booked through the RCVS.

PLEASE NOTE: It is your responsibility to ensure that you have access to sufficient appropriate cases where you were the primary decision maker to produce adequate material for the module. This may not be possible with some internship positions. You must also be aware of any limitations of your facilities that may make the accumulation of appropriate cases difficult or impossible.
