SAVSNET data highlights large numbers of animals remain poorly protected by vaccination
'Vaccination Guidelines Controversies' was the title of the Professor Michael Day's opening talk at the International Society for Companion Animal Diseases- Merial Symposium yesterday. Professor Day is part of the Vaccinations Guidelines Group of the WSAVA which published new guidelines in 2010. He talked about current vaccination levels and vaccination intervals in vet visiting animals as revealed by SAVSNET data and highlighted the lack of surveillance data for disease and vaccination practices- an area SAVSNET aims to fill. The analysis of the SAVSNET data was prepared by Victoria O'Hara, who worked on the data as part of a summer project, with the help of Drs Phil Jones and Alan Radford. Dr Radford remarked that the analyses were starting to look really interesting, and that he would be keen to pursue this line of investigation.
