This week, SAVSNET hosted students as part of the Institute of Infection and Global Health Summer Science School.  James Gaunt, Thomas Ardrey, Hugh Takemoto and Lucy Price (pictured from left to right) worked with the SAVSNET team to understand text mining and apply their knowledge to a big dataset.  The students worked with data contributed by UK veterinary practices who take part in SAVSNET to plot the travel of pet animals within Europe. This work provides a really interesting insight into the travel of pets.  These students had the opportunity to appreciate the value and complexity of text mining the information hidden within electronic health records.  We look forward to developing this work in future, and continue to be a part of the Summer Science School here at Liverpool.
