Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas


The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC) is the largest public multidisciplinary research organisation in Spain.  It has a staff of more than 10,000 employees, among these 3,202 scientists and about 3,802 pre- and post-doctoral researchers.  The CSIC has 116 institutes or centres distributed throughout Spain.  There is also a delegation in Brussels.  The CSIC has considerable experience in both participating and managing research and development projects and training grants.

Dr. José Manuel Gutiérrez, PhD
Dr. Gutiérrez , head of the Meteorology and Data Mining (MDM) group at the Instituto Fisica de Cantabria (IFCA), has been working for more than 10 years in the statistical analysis and post-processing of numerical outputs from medium-range and seasonal forecasts and climate change projection.

Antonio S. Cofiño, Ph.D.
Associate professor in Universidad de Cantabria, has been working in the field of seasonal forecast for ten years, analyzing the skill of state-of-the-art operational models and the different alternatives for ensemble member preparation. He has also experience in the application of calibration and downscaling methods to this timescale, with several publications in this subject. Moreover, he has experience in data analysis and mining techniques and high-performance computation and has been involved in several EU projects (DEMETER, EELA, ENSEMBLES, etc.) involving these topics.
