Celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Published on

Public engagement in science is an important aspect in the activities the QUASAR Group undertake, it allows us to break barriers and share the impact that science has on the world around us, but not only that, it allows us to show that anyone regardless of background can contribute!

February 11th is celebrated by scientists as the ‘International Day of Women and Girls in Science’, allowing institutions world-wide to partake in this public engagement and show the drive and passion that women have for science. This year, two members of our very own QUASAR Group, Dr Oznur Apsimon and Sara Morales Vigo, participated in sharing their passion for science with others.

Dr Oznur Apsimon gave a motivational talk virtually to undergraduate physics students on her journey through physics education and her work experience in various institutions including DESY, CERN and the Cockcroft Institute, while Sara Morales Vigo along with other scientists helped produce a video showing a small part of the work that they do at CERN to celebrate #WomenInScience. The video campaign reached 77.5k views on Twitter and LinkedIn and 650k views on Facebook and Instagram.
