When I moved to Liverpool to study Politics in 2005 I could not possibly have known how much my life would be formed by the experience. I fell in love with the city and made a home there after my graduation in 2008. I still live in the North West today.

I always remember my first trip to the Roxby Building for a reception on the top floor with the teaching staff and Politics Society. I made friends for life that day and actually ended up helping to run the society in later years.

I particularly loved lectures with Dennis Kavanagh, whose election books I used to devour. For many years my Mum used to message me whenever she saw Jon Tonge on the TV. She was more excited than me when the Professor agreed to supervise my dissertation on the broadcast media during The Troubles.

It was through my membership of the university radio society that I got the chance to visit a local station and take my first professional steps in a broadcasting career that has led me to national radio and TV. I now report on BBC Radio 5Live and present the business news on BBC Breakfast TV.
