Creating an Inclusive Physical Campus (Built) Environment for Students and Staff’

The University of Liverpool’s Inclusivity and Accessibility Policy sets out how universal and inclusive design will be prioritised in all new build and refurbishment projects on campus. The policy links in with a range of associated codes, policies and procedures, principally those relating to disability, equality and reasonable adjustment processes for staff and students

The Inclusivity and Accessibility Policy recognises that the quality of the built environment has a direct impact on the University’s ability to recruit and retain the best staff and deliver first-class, inclusive education to its students. It also acknowledges that due to the age of the infrastructure and many of the buildings on campus, the built environment at Liverpool requires ongoing development, refurbishment, maintenance and effective management to improve inclusivity and accessibility.

The scope of the policy includes:

  • New build and redevelopment projects
  • Major refurbishments of building and external areas
  • Change of use and general refurbishment, improvements and decoration
  • The management of the built estate
